Gargara was a minor Troad settlement whose coinage history is sparse enough that its bronzes remain poorly understood in terms of issuing sequence and civic authority. The city was reportedly refounded — or at least repopulated — by Antigonos I Monophthalmos around 310 BC using inhabitants relocated from neighboring Kebrene and Skepsis, which raises the unresolved question of whether this piece predates that forced synoikism or was struck by the reconstituted polis afterward.
