Obverse description The field is occupied entirely by the Shi'a Kalima rendered in bold thuluth script, arranged in three horizontal registers within a beaded border. The first line reads the shahada profession of faith; the second incorporates the name of the Prophet Muhammad as Messenger of God; and the third affirms Ali as the Friend of God. The calligraphy is deeply struck in high relief, characteristic of Zand-period hammered gold coinage, with individual letters separated by decorative dot clusters. The irregular flan edge is typical of hand-struck issues of this period.
