Reverse description The Portuguese royal arms displayed as a shield of the second type, featuring the traditional quinas arrangement of five escutcheons each bearing five bezants, surrounded by a bordure of castles, all set within an elaborate Baroque cartouche with foliate and scrollwork supporters. The crowned shield is surmounted by a royal crown topped with a cross, with decorative acanthus-like mantling flanking both sides. The denomination 1600 does not appear on the reverse in the traditional sense; the design fills the field entirely with the heraldic composition. No peripheral legend is present on the reverse, leaving the armorial achievement as the sole design element.
