Obverse description The peripheral legend JOANNES•VI•D•G•PORT•BRAS•ET•ALG•REX• encircles the design. At center, the denomination 160 is displayed beneath a Royal Crown, with the date (1818) above and the mint mark R below, the latter flanked by small floral ornaments. The entire central device is framed by two symmetrical branches, rendered in the style of coffee or laurel, extending upward from the base of the field. The composition is characteristic of the Joannine colonial Brazilian coinage, combining monarchical symbolism with heraldic formality.
