Obverse description Facing head of Herakles or Hermes depicted in three-quarter view at center, set within a circular boss or raised medallion, surrounded by the ornate raised rim of a Macedonian round shield. The shield's surface is decorated with a distinctive pattern of dots and curved ornamental devices radiating outward from the central boss, rendered in the bold, somewhat compact style characteristic of Macedonian bronze coinage of the late 4th century BC.
