Reverse description The Guatemalan national arms occupy the central field, depicting a resplendent quetzal bird perched atop a Doric column flanked by two crossed rifles and a laurel wreath at the base, with two volcanic peaks and a rising sun with radiating rays above, all set within an elaborate baroque cartouche of scrollwork. The denomination 16 Ps. appears flanking the shield to left and right respectively, with the fineness mark 21 Qs. at lower left and the assayer initial R. at lower right. The date 1867 is placed in the exergue below the cartouche. The encircling legend GUATÆ RA S.D.O.M. PROTCTE. runs along the upper periphery within a toothed border.
