Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing portrait bust of Rafael Carrera, President and Founder of the Republic of Guatemala, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and a short goatee. The truncation is plain, with the engraver's signature FRENER G. inscribed along the lower field below the bust. The encircling legend reads R. CARRERA FUNDADOR DE LA REP. DE GUATEMALA, separated from the coin's toothed border by a raised inner rim. The portrait displays a classical neoclassical engraving style characteristic of mid-19th century Central American coinage.
