| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Justinian I facing right, rendered in the late antique imperial tradition. The emperor's effigy is depicted with a pearl diadem, the draping of the paludamentum visible at the shoulder, and the cuirass indicating military authority. The obverse legend encircles the bust, partially visible on this irregularly shaped flan. The portrait style is characteristic of early Byzantine coinage from the Thessalonica mint, with somewhat provincial engraving quality relative to Constantinople issues. |
