Obverse description Conjoined busts of Prince-Administrator Xaver, Duke of Saxony, and King Friedrich August III of Saxony in left-facing profile relief, with the engraver's signature F. HÖRNLEIN below. The circumferential legend naming both rulers and the commemorative dates 1766 and 1916 runs around the full border.

Reverse description A detailed panoramic cityscape of Freiberg in high relief occupies the upper field, dominated by the spires and rooftops of the city's historic churches and buildings. The lower exergue contains a three-line inscription, below which crossed mining hammers (mallet and pick) appear as a symbol of the mining academy.
