Obverse description The Tanzanian coat of arms is centrally positioned within the rectangular field, depicting a shield supported by two human figures — a man and a woman — flanking crossed elephant tusks from which the shield is suspended, with a torch and axe motif on the shield itself. A ribbon at the base bears the national motto 'UHURU NA UMOJA' (Freedom and Unity) in raised Latin lettering. The legend 'TANZANIA' appears in large incuse letters along the upper margin, while the denomination '1500 SHILLINGS' is inscribed in relief along the lower margin.
