| Obverse description | Central design features the Somali national coat of arms: a quartered shield displaying a central five-pointed star, supported by two leopards rampant, surmounted by a mural crown, and resting on a scroll or ribbon base. The Latin legend 'JAMHUURIYADDA DIMOQRAADIGA SOOMAALIYA' arcs along the upper periphery, with the corresponding Arabic inscription 'جمهورية الصومال الديمقراطية' running concurrently within the inner border. Below the arms, the dual-dated commemorative inscription '1969-1979' appears in both Western and Arabic-Indic numerals, flanked by the Somali legend 'SANNAD GUURADII 10AAD EE KACAANKA' along the lower arc, with the Arabic equivalent 'الذكرى العاشرة للثورة' beneath the date, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the revolution. |

| Reverse description | The reverse presents a figurative scene in high relief depicting three figures representing the working people of Somalia: at centre, a smiling male figure in military uniform carries a platter of food, symbolising leadership and provision; to his left, a woman in traditional dress tends to domestic work; to his right, a male worker carries a bucket, representing labour. The denomination '1500 SHILLINGS' appears in the upper left field in Latin characters, with the Arabic equivalent '١٥٠٠ شلن' in the upper right field. The composition conveys the socialist-revolutionary ideals of the Somali Democratic Republic. |
