Issued as part of Paraguay's mid-1970s commemorative gold program under Stroessner, this piece honors Adenauer almost a decade after his 1967 death — a timing that had less to do with numismatic occasion than with Paraguay's ongoing effort to generate hard currency through collector coin exports. The series was marketed heavily in West Germany, where Adenauer's postwar reputation made such pieces commercially viable to a foreign buyer base.
