Reverse description A detailed frontal view of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus is depicted in the central field, showing the classical Greek peristyle temple with a prominent colonnade of tall Ionic columns supporting a decorated entablature and pediment. The legend TEMPLE DE ARTÉMISE arcs along the upper periphery, flanked on each side by three six-pointed stars. The inscription MERVEILLES DU MONDE DE L'ANTIQUITÉ curves along the lower periphery, with the date 2006 inscribed in the exergue below the temple. A beaded border frames the entire reverse design.

Additional information

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was destroyed and rebuilt multiple times before its final demolition by a Goth raid in 268 AD, but its legendary status as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World made it a recurring subject for commemorative issues in the early 2000s — a period when sub-Saharan CFA franc issuers aggressively entered the collector bullion market. Ivory Coast held no historical connection to the site whatsoever; the coin exists purely as a vehicle for fractional gold in a themed series.
