| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Benin occupies the central field, depicting a shield supported by two leopards rampant, with a sailing ship in the upper quarter and a palm tree in the lower quarter. A scroll at the base of the arms bears the national motto 'FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL'. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN' arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '1500 FRANCS CFA' is inscribed in two lines across the lower field in large raised lettering. |

Benin has no independent monetary authority — it is a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, and the BCEAO in Dakar controls all CFA franc issuance. These small-format gold pieces were never authorized for circulation and exist purely as collector items contracted through European minting and marketing intermediaries, most commonly the Bavarian firm coin invest trust. The 1500 francs denomination itself is a fabrication with no basis in the official CFA denomination structure.
