Obverse description Central field features the national coat of arms of Benin, comprising a quartered shield displaying a castle, a star, a palm tree, and a sailing vessel, supported by two lions rampant and surmounted by a buffalo head. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto in the legend: FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN arcs across the upper field, while the denomination 1500 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in bold lettering along the lower field.
