The 1500 Francs CFA denomination was introduced by the Ivory Coast as part of a wave of small-format gold issues produced largely for the collector and gift market, bearing no meaningful connection to the country's actual monetary system. These were struck under licensing arrangements common among West African CFA franc nations, where sovereign minting rights were effectively leased to European distributors — in this case almost certainly through a French or Swiss intermediary.
