Additional information

Burkina Faso has issued commemorative coinage through the BCEAO framework but holds no particular connection to John Paul II's canonization beyond the licensing arrangements that route papal memorial issues through cooperative African franc-zone mints. The canonization itself took place on April 27, 2014, alongside John XXIII — an unusual double ceremony engineered by Francis to sidestep the traditional second miracle requirement for John XXIII.

These issues were produced for the collector market exclusively; no 1500 CFA denomination circulated in Burkina Faso.
