Additional information

Croatia issued this coin on the 150th anniversary of Tesla's birth, though the choice of subject carried quiet political weight — Tesla was born in Smiljan, then part of the Austrian Empire, and his ethnic identity has been contested between Croatian and Serbian national narratives for decades. The Croatian National Bank's decision to place him on a commemorative effectively staked a position in that argument.

KM#86 was struck to proof and brilliant uncirculated standards, with mintages kept modest enough that secondary market premiums have held firm since issue.
