| Obverse description | The Paraguayan national arms occupy the central field, depicting a five-pointed star within a radiant sun disc, encircled by an olive branch on the left and a palm branch on the right. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL PARAGUAY runs along the upper periphery, separated from the inner design by a beaded border. The date 1974, split as 19 and 74 flanking the arms, and the denomination 150 GUARANIES appear in the lower field below the arms. The entire design is executed in high-relief proof finish against deeply mirrored fields. |

This piece belongs to Paraguay's extensive 1970s commemorative silver program, a foreign-currency-earning scheme run largely for collector export rather than domestic circulation. The Churchill subject had obvious international commercial appeal — by 1974 his image had appeared on commemorative issues from dozens of countries — and Paraguay's government, under Stroessner, used these programs aggressively to generate hard currency income with no intention of the coins ever seeing a Paraguayan pocket.
