Paraguay's Munich Olympics series was issued in 1972 as part of a wave of commemorative programs adopted by smaller nations with no direct connection to the Games — a practice the IOC tolerated but never formally endorsed. These issues were produced primarily for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation, and virtually none entered the Paraguayan economy.
KM#35 is one of several denominations in the set, each struck to .999 fineness at a time when Paraguay's circulating coinage was entirely base metal.
