Paraguay issued this coin as part of a wave of commemorative silver pieces produced throughout the 1970s for the international collector market — not for domestic circulation. The Apollo 11 mission itself had concluded six years prior, making the 1975 release a straightforwardly commercial proposition rather than a timely commemoration. Banco Central del Paraguay minted several such pieces during this period, licensing foreign historical subjects with little direct connection to the country.
