| Additional information |
The Grey Wolf platinum issue was part of the Royal Canadian Mint's Wildlife series, which launched in 1990 and ran through the 1990s to leverage Canada's early dominance in the investment-grade platinum market — a dominance built largely on the success of the Maple Leaf bullion program. By 1998, platinum had become increasingly attractive to collectors and investors alike, trading well above gold for much of the decade. The dual reference numbers suggest this issue may cover both proof and uncirculated variants struck to the same specifications.
