Additional information

The Wedge-tailed Eagle bullion series, launched by the Perth Mint in 2014, was designed to compete directly with established bimetallic luxury issues like the Canadian Bimetallic Bullion coins — a market segment where Australia had no prior foothold. Combining a .9999 gold centre with a .9995 platinum ring, each piece requires precise bonding under controlled pressure; any thermal mismatch during striking can cause delamination, making consistent production genuinely difficult at this specification.

The 2018 issue is the fifth in the series. Annual design changes are a deliberate policy to drive collector demand alongside bullion value.
