| Additional information |
Panama's 1976 platinum coinage was produced to mark the renegotiation of the Canal Zone treaties between Panama and the United States — the prolonged diplomatic process that culminated in the Torrijos-Carter Treaties signed in September 1977. The coins effectively anticipated the outcome, issued while negotiations were still live. KM#43 is among the earliest platinum bullion-format issues from a Latin American sovereign mint, and the .999 fineness was a deliberate signal of seriousness to international collectors at a moment when platinum coinage remained genuinely rare.
