Obverse description A spread-winged eagle displayed at center, perched atop a wreath of laurel and oak branches, rendered in high relief in the Republican style. The eagle faces left with wings raised and tail feathers visible, symbolizing Genevan liberty. The circumferential legend POST TENEBRAS LUX (After Darkness, Light) — the historic motto of the Genevan Reformation — curves along the upper periphery in Roman capitals. The date 1794 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the wreath. A beaded border runs along the coin's outer rim.
