Additional information

Maximilian II Emanuel returned from French-backed exile in 1714 following the Treaty of Baden, which closed out the War of the Spanish Succession — a conflict that had cost him his electorate entirely after the disaster at Blenheim in 1704. These kreuzers were struck during his restoration years, a period of aggressive fiscal rebuilding as he attempted to restore Bavarian finances gutted by a decade of Austrian occupation and Allied administration.

The .720 fineness reflects post-war monetary pragmatism rather than debasement per se — Munich was working within the constraints of the 1690 Leipzig Coin Convention and its successors, which set southern German silver standards for smaller denominations.
