Issued to mark the centenary of Mestrović's arrival in Paris, where his early exhibitions drew comparisons to Rodin — a parallel the sculptor himself reportedly found reductive. The choice of an Irish institution commemorating a Croatian artist reflects his decades of international displacement, which included time in the United States after fleeing Yugoslavia following World War II, where he eventually took American citizenship in 1954.
