| Obverse description | The effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right in a draped bust portrait, wearing drop earrings and a pearl necklace, as modelled by engraver Susanna Blunt (initials 'SB' visible below the truncation). The circular legend around the scalloped field reads 'CANADA' at the top, flanked by 'ELIZABETH II' to the right and '15 DOLLARS' to the left. The date '2010' appears at the base of the design. The coin's distinctive lotus-shaped scalloped outline frames the entire composition. |

Canada's Lunar Lotus series was introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint to court collector demand from both domestic Chinese-Canadian communities and export markets in Asia. The Year of the Tiger falls on a 12-year cycle; 2010 corresponded to the metal Tiger, a designation within the 60-year sexagenary cycle that last occurred in 1950 and won't return until 2070. Mintage on these issues was tightly controlled compared to the RCM's broader bullion output, and the series commanded significant premiums on secondary markets almost immediately upon release.
