Additional information

Australia's platinum Koala series, launched in 1987, was among the first government-issued platinum bullion programs in the world, competing directly with the Soviet Palladium issues and the Isle of Man's platinum cats for early collector attention. The Perth Mint shifted to Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II in 1999, and the 2001 issues are among the lower-mintage entries in the series — platinum fractionals from this period rarely exceeded a few thousand pieces globally.
