Obverse description The first effigy of King Charles III as monarch, rendered as an uncrowned, draped bust facing left, executed by engraver Dominic Tatcher whose initials 'DT' appear in the lower field near the truncation. The portrait is realistically modelled with fine detail in the hair and collar. The legend 'CHARLES III' arcs along the upper left periphery and 'AUSTRALIA' continues along the upper right. The lower arc carries the inscriptions '1/10oz 9999 Au' to the left and '15 DOLLARS' to the right, each flanked by a raised dot separator.

Additional information

Perth Mint's lunar series has run continuously since 1996, making it one of the longest-running annual bullion programs from any mint. The Year of the Horse falls twelfth in the twelve-year zodiac cycle, meaning this 2026 issue closes the second full rotation of the series since its inception — a structural detail that tends to drive collector demand at cycle endpoints.

Charles III's effigy appears here in its first portrait iteration, sculpted by Dominic Mannion and approved for circulation and bullion coinage from 2023 onward following the standard portrait commission process coordinated through the Royal Mint in London.
