Reverse description A peacock, symbol of Hera, stands in right profile atop a caduceus laid horizontally across the field, its body rendered with compact, stylised plumage. Behind the bird, a tall sceptre rises vertically, emphasising the divine and civic associations of the type. The Greek ethnic legend ΣΑΜΙΩΝ is inscribed in the lower field below the caduceus, identifying the issuing community. The composition is contained within a dotted border, characteristic of civic bronze issues from Ionian Asia Minor during the Augustan period.
