| Additional information |
Odessos, the Greek colony on the western Black Sea coast near modern Varna, Bulgaria, occupied a commercially strategic position between the Hellenic world and Thracian interior. This issue falls within the turbulent decades following Alexander's death, when the Diadochi fragmented his empire and coastal Pontic cities scrambled to maintain autonomy amid shifting Macedonian and Thracian power struggles. Lysimachos controlled much of Thrace until his death at Corupedium in 281 BC — the opening bracket of this coin's probable production window is not coincidental.
