Chad has issued commemorative silver under the BEAC framework with some regularity, but this piece belongs to a looser category of numismatic issues authorized through licensing arrangements rather than tied to any domestic monetary event. The Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889 as the entrance arch for the Exposition Universelle, intended to be demolished after 20 years — it survived only because its iron lattice proved useful as a radiotelegraph transmission tower during the early 1900s, a function that became militarily critical by 1914.
