Salkaházi Sára was a Hungarian Catholic nun and member of the Society of the Sisters of Social Service who was executed by the Arrow Cross in December 1944 for sheltering Jews in Budapest. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2006, one of relatively few Hungarian martyrs of the Nazi period to receive formal recognition. The National Bank of Hungary has issued several collector pieces in the martyrs and blessed series, and this silver falls within that ongoing commemorative program.
