Additional information

Süreyya Ağaoğlu, honored on this issue, was the first female lawyer in Turkey — admitted to the bar in 1928, the same year the new civil code granted Turkish women legal standing to practice. The timing was not coincidental; the early Republic aggressively promoted women in professional roles as a deliberate break from Ottoman social structures.

The 15,000,000 lira face value reflects Turkey's chronic inflation problem of the 1990s and early 2000s, which had rendered the lira nearly notional as a unit. A redenomination followed in 2005, making this one of the last issues struck under the old numbering — six zeros removed overnight.
