Obverse description Head of a griffin in left profile, rendered in bold archaic relief, with prominent ear, open beak, and a knob atop the skull. A small seal, depicted in upright position, appears in the right field behind the griffin's head, serving as the civic badge of Phokaia. The design fills the irregular flan with a vigorous, naturalistic energy characteristic of early Ionian electrum coinage.

Reverse description Quadripartite incuse square of irregular form, divided into four recessed compartments by raised ridges meeting at the center, typical of early Greek hammered coinage. The incuse impression shows rough, granular surfaces within each quarter, produced by the punch used during striking. The surrounding field retains the natural irregular contour of the small electrum flan.
