| Obverse description | Frontal figure of the dwarf deity Bes standing in a squatting stance upon a ground line, depicted in characteristic grotesque style with a feathered or turreted crown. The deity raises a mace or club in his right hand above his shoulder, while his left arm extends outward grasping a serpent. The muscular, squat body is rendered with bold, high-relief modeling typical of Ebusitan bronze coinage of the 2nd century BC. The field is plain, with no legend or inscription. |
