| Obverse description | Laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with flowing wavy locks of hair falling to the neck and a laurel wreath crowning the head. The facial features are sharply modelled, with a prominent nose, well-defined eye, and sensitively rendered lips. The ligated monogram NK appears in the left field behind the head. The portrait displays the characteristic idealized beauty associated with Tarentine gold coinage of the mid-third century BC. |
