| Obverse description | Three-quarter facing head of the young Herakles, turned slightly to the left, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, the jaws and mane of the pelt framing the hero's youthful visage with bold, naturalistic relief. The modelling of the face is accomplished and expressive, reflecting the advanced die-cutting tradition of fifth-century Cypriot coinage. The lion's skin is rendered in fine detail, with the forelegs knotted at the neck and the mane splaying outward to fill the field. |
