| Reverse description | Athena Alkis (Alkidemos type) striding vigorously to the left, depicted as a fully armed warrior goddess bearing a large round shield on her left arm and a long spear thrust forward in her right hand. The figure derives from the reverse type of Philip II of Macedon's gold staters, reinterpreted in the Celtic artistic idiom with simplified, abstracted forms. A degraded pseudo-legend appears to the right of the figure, and a retrograde letter E is placed below and to the left, remnants of the original Greek inscription reduced to decorative or vestigial elements by Celtic die-cutters. |
