| Obverse description | Central field features the tughra (imperial cipher) of Ottoman Sultan Abdulmecid I rendered in thick, boldly raised Arabic calligraphy, enclosed within a circular inner border. The tughra is surrounded by radiating foliate sprays that fill the field toward the periphery, creating an ornate decorative framework. The Arabic legend, reading 'السلطان الغازي عبد المجيد خان' (Sultan al-Ghazi Abdulmecid Khan), arcs prominently around the central device. The numeral 13, denoting the denomination in nasri, appears within the legend. The overall design is characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Ottoman-Tunisian milled copper coinage, with thick, heavy relief lettering. |
