Obverse description Macedonian round shield depicted face-on, its surface decorated with a prominent raised star at the center boss, surrounded by a dotted border encircling the entire design. The shield's characteristic concentric ring pattern and slightly convex form are rendered in low relief, consistent with the die-engraving conventions of the late 4th century BC Macedonian bronze coinage.

Additional information

Issued in the turbulent decade following Alexander the Great's death in 323 BC, this small bronze circulated through the early Diadochi period — when his generals were actively dismembering the empire he had built. Macedonia itself changed hands repeatedly during these years, with Antipater, Polyperchon, and Cassander each asserting control in succession. Bronze fractionals of this type were the everyday currency of ordinary Macedonians while those political convulsions played out above them.
