Additional information

Kephaloidion — modern Cefalù on Sicily's northern coast — sat in contested territory between Carthaginian and Greek spheres throughout the fourth century. This issue falls within the period when the city operated under effective Carthaginian control following the campaigns of Himilco, yet continued striking its own civic bronze, a pragmatic arrangement Carthage extended to several Sicilian towns it preferred to administer rather than destroy.

CNS 5 is among the scarcer of the city's bronze types by surviving population.
