Additional information

Panjabrao Deshmukh — known widely as Bhaurao — served as India's first Agriculture Minister after independence, holding the post from 1952 to 1962, and is credited with foundational reforms to agricultural credit and education during the critical early decades of the republic. This coin marks the 125th birth anniversary of his birth in 1898. India's commemorative rupee program has issued hundreds of these silver anniversary pieces since the 1960s, and the .500 fineness used here is consistent with the modern series — a deliberate compromise between symbolic silver content and production cost.
