Issued to mark the 45th anniversary of Indonesia's proclamation of independence on 17 August 1945, this gold piece belongs to a commemorative program Bank Indonesia ran sporadically through the late Suharto period. The .958 fineness — sometimes called 23-karat — was an unusual choice for a modern commemorative, departing from the more internationally common .900 or .9999 standards used by most sovereign mints at the time.
