Obverse description At center, the heraldic lion of Belgium rests one forepaw upon a scroll inscribed as the Belgian Constitution of 1831, rendered in a stylized relief. Below, the face value is indicated, while the surrounding legend bears the country name in the three national languages: BELGIE, BELGIQUE, and BELGIEN. The inscription BELGISCHE GRONDWET – CONSTITUTION BELGE – 1831 arcs across the field, referencing the constitutional anniversary commemorated by this issue. The mintmark and privy mark of designer Luc Luycx appear in the lower field.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 175th anniversary of the Belgian dynasty, this miniature gold piece belongs to a short run of fractional euro bullion and collector issues that Belgium produced in the mid-2000s. The denomination itself — 12.5 euros — has no circulation function and was created purely as a vehicle for the commemorative program, priced against spot gold at the time of issue.
