| Obverse description | Plain typeset note with ornate letterpress border vignettes at left and right margins, each containing the denomination '12 1/2 CENTS' in vertical orientation within a guilloched frame. A central oval guilloche panel at the top displays '12 1/2 cents' in bold numerals, flanked by the denomination figures '12 1/2' at the upper corners. The body of the note carries the issuing authority text and promise-to-pay inscription, dated April 22d 1816, with manuscript attestation by the Secretary and a manuscript signature of the President, with the imprint of Murray Draper Fairman & Co. at the foot. |
