Basti was an ancient Iberian settlement identified with modern Baza, in Granada province. The city issued its own bronze coinage during the period of Roman consolidation of Hispania Citerior, a process that tolerated — and in some cases actively encouraged — local civic minting as a tool of administrative integration. This half-unit belongs to the smallest denomination in Basti's limited series, with CNH#1 representing the foundational reference point for the entire civic coinage of the site.
