| Reverse description | Quartered shield of arms of Ramon Despuig impaled with the arms of the Order of St. John, surmounted by a grand master's coronet and flanked by elaborate Baroque scrollwork and acanthus ornamentation. The date 1737 is divided by the coronet, with 17 to the left and 37 to the right. The shield displays the horizontal stripes of Aragon in the first and fourth quarters and the cross of the Order in the second and third quarters, with additional heraldic charges. The composition fills the field within a beaded border. |

Ramon Despuig served as Grand Master for barely four years, dying in office in 1741, which kept his coinage issues limited in volume. The 12 Tari was the workhorse denomination of Hospitaller Malta, circulating widely across the central Mediterranean in trade networks that stretched from Sicilian grain ports to Levantine factor houses.
Gatt's catalog remains the specialist reference for Maltese Hospitaller coinage, and the numbering divergence between Gatt and KM on this type reflects genuine scholarly disagreement about die sequence rather than simple cataloging error.
