| Reverse description | Taras, the eponymous founder of the city, is depicted as a dolphin rider moving to the left, his figure nude or semi-draped in characteristic South Italian style. He extends his right hand forward bearing a small dolphin, while his left hand grasps a trident; on some specimens a thunderbolt appears in the left field. Below the main type the monogram letters T and K flank the exergual area, and the ethnic TAPAΣ is inscribed in the field. |
