Frederik IV struck this denomination during a period of significant monetary reform following Denmark's exhausting involvement in the Great Northern War, which had drained royal finances and disrupted coinage standards throughout the kingdom. The .562 fineness reflects a deliberate compromise — fine enough to maintain credibility, debased enough to stretch silver reserves that had been under sustained pressure since the 1700s campaigns against Sweden.
KM#521 is a short-lived type, produced across only three years before subsequent reforms adjusted the standard again.
